Within the next month and a half I’m going to have another child. Then, a month after that I’ll be moving to Washington. Basically everything about my life is about to change.
Maybe It’s my motherly nesting instincts, or just the fact that Spring is so close, that makes me want to pack everything up. I already feel the urge to get my hospital bag put together, make a big brother bag for Russ, and pack up my house/ get rid of my crummy old furniture.
Let’s get things moving!
I’m going to resist my urge to throw my apartment into boxes, but I will let myself overly prepare for Wallace’s arrival, even if It’s too soon.
I asked my husband if he had ever heard of a “big brother/sister bag” and he said it sounds like something someone on Instagram made up. I laughed because it’s definitely a very ” mommy blogger” type thing. The only thing more cliche than a “Big Brother Bag” blog post is probably the classic “What’s In My Hospital Bag” post, both of which you’re going to get from me.
I love the idea of a gift for older siblings when a new baby arrives in the picture. I can only imagine how Russell will feel when suddenly I’ve got a new child to cater to. I don’t know if It will be overwhelming and difficult for him, or exciting. Just to be safe, I’ll be greeting him with a load of kisses and a bag packed with goodies.
I didn’t want to do anything expensive, so I’ve gathered several low-cost items that I know Russell will adore.
Honestly, I could give Russ a chocolate bar and it would be enough for him. Children are so easy to please.
If you are looking to make a big brother bag, I compiled all of the ideas I had into the list below.
big brother T-shirt (Or any article of clothing)
musical instrument (cheap plastic ones obvi)
kids camera or disposable camera
badge or certificate
What are some of your ideas?
This is what I put in Russell’s Big Brother Bag:
Pictured above is:
Stickers (1$ for each sheet)
Sour Bears (1$)
Nerds Rope (1.99$)
Fruit snacks (already had them at home)
24 pack of Crayola Crayons (2.99$)
Crayola Coloring Book (6.99$)
I will probably throw a Hot Wheels car or two in to Russell’s bag by the time I give birth. Hot Wheels are only .96 each at Walmart.
My bag totaled roughly 15$ not counting the bag itself and the two Hot Wheels I plan to add (maybe), but obviously it could have been a lot cheaper if I chose a different coloring book. I liked Crayola’s Edgy one, so I decided to spend the extra few bucks on it.
I can’t wait to give Russell his gift when baby Wallace is born.
